Pfneiszl Estate

“This is how I love my life” – is the motto of the Pfneiszl family. This philosophy describes the winery and their wines.

The new Pfneiszl generation, Birgit and Katrin, took over the winery in 2006 from their Hungarian-born winemaker father who grew up in Austria. They farm a total of 13 hectares. They switched to organic farming in 2006. In total they grow 9 grape varieties. The repertoire includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Blue Frankish, Malbec, Merlot, Sangiovese, Shiraz, Zephyr and Zinfandel.

Birgit prepared to become a winemaker from the age of 14, working in California, Argentina, Chile, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. She also “infected” her sister with a love and passion for viticulture and winemaking. She was one of the first in Hungary to implement organic farming on the family farm.

A special feature is that each vintage is not only labelled with a year number, but also paired with a short story.

Wine tastings are available by appointment in Sopron, on Kőszegi road.
